Weed News – End of July 2018

A quick review of the cannabis legalization efforts around the globe.

Seriously, we are two days away from August, and I couldn’t really put this News segment in the August section because it’s happening now. But I didn’t really want to put it into the July section either, because obviously we’re at the end of July anyway. So… end of July Weed News with SovietStoner. Here we go.

Our first big news story comes to us from Georgia. And not the state of Georgia. The country of Georgia. The one over there, that used to be part of the Soviet Union. But is now an independent country. Georgian Constitutional Court ruled that cannabis consumption is not a threat to public health and safety. (No shit !!)  But rather a responsibility of the user who has to live with the consequences of their actions. (the use of cannabis). So that is a major step for a former Soviet Union country in the legalization of cannabis. Soviet Union, and Russian speaking countries, we’re fairly strict when it comes to penalties for possession and paraphernalia. Their judiciary system awards larger fines and sentences, then we are probably comfortable with. And seeing a country legalized marijuana is great news for cannabis users worldwide. Georgia is a beautiful country. With excellent and unique cuisine, and especially great wine. If you are a cannabis tourist, you know what I mean, you should consider visiting Georgia. Now that there is no danger of going to jail for having a couple of joints on you. Read the Full Story.

In the United States, there’s also some good legalization news. In Oklahoma the marijuana advocacy group Green the Vote got enough signatures to put legalization on the ballot. Oklahoma voters approved State Question 788, legalizing cannabis for medical use, about a month ago. But there was some problems with the wording of the language, and there was some opposition or restrictions imposed by the government that were not satisfactory to most people. Like there was a clause in there that you couldn’t smoke the flower. It had to be vaped if it was considered for medical use. Something similar is going on in Ohio right now. As a result the petition was circulated to put a simple question on a ballot regarding the legal adult use of cannabis, for the November elections. The group announced that it collected the necessary signatures, but they were still needed to be verified. So whenever that happens, there might be or there might not be question on the ballot of the November elections in Oklahoma. Hopefully it all gets sorted out and people in Oklahoma can blaze up. Legally. The full story is HERE.

Also great news from Pennsylvania. Democratic State Republican Jake Wheatley is planning to introduce a bill to legalize the adult use of cannabis. In his press release, the representative calls for the abandonment of the “ugly stigma of cannabis”. (probably because he smokes himself, and he knows what’s up.) He also wants Pennsylvania to take some of the economic advantages of the legalized cannabis market. Obviously, it’s all about the fucking money. But you can still be happy that people won’t be going to prison for smoking weed. See the Full Story.

And on the Federal level, a new bill is introduced to protect the employment of federal government employees who are legal marijuana consumers. (according to their state laws). Under the current policies, a federal worker who tests positive for cannabis can still be fired, even though most of the states have legalized marijuana for medical reasons. The bill would protect all civilian federal agency employees, except those with a top secret security clearance. And it does not give the the right to be high at work. Still good news though. Read about it.

Top 5 Reasons Marijuana is Safer Then Other Legal Substances

#marijuana #cannabis #weed #Top5 #legal

Here are my Top 5 reasons that I prefer marijuana to other legal substances. And when I say other legal substances, I mean alcohol and tobacco, as well as some strong prescription medication that seems to be available to everyone nowadays.

  1. No Overdoses – Seriously. NO cases of overdosing on marijuana has EVER been reported. Unlike the constant flow of news we hear about people overdosing on prescription meds and alcohol.
  2. Does not prompt violent behavior – This is something that is often overlooked, but it is an important part of the whole “drugs are bad” campaign. Unlike other drugs (or alcohol), weed does not prompt aggressive behavior. You never heard of any stoner getting blazed and beating his wife to death. Or smoking a joint and committing an armed robbery or assault. Pot smokers are known for their pacifism, and usually do not get into fights. The most damage a stoned person can do is destroy the leftovers of last nights dinner in the fridge. A condition often referred to as “The Munchies”.
  3. Does not increase the risk of a motor vehicle accident – I know some police officers might argue with me on this one, but the numbers do not lie. According the the Colorado’s Department of Motor Vehicles 2017 report, there were no noticeable changes in the amount of car crashes or accidents since the state has legalized marijuana for recreational purposes a few years ago. And speaking from personal experience, as a drivers that has been driving high for the last 20 years, I would say it is much safer then alcohol or any kind of prescription drugs.
  4. All natural with no additives – This is especially relevant in the recent years with the increase of use of synthetic drugs. Basically, I am all about transparency and open research, but when your drugs come in a form of a pill or tablet, you never really know what is in there. With cannabis it is simple, especially if you grow your own, you know exactly what went in there. And with the legalization of medicinal marijuana in my very own state of Ohio, you can be sure that the medicine you’re getting is of the highest quality.
  5. Known healing properties – After doing a little research on the internet, I found multiple accounts of people using cannabis extracts to treat medical conditions with even more success then the doctor prescribed medication.

Trump’s Trade Wars: We Are Allowed to Do That, Not You

Our President Donald Trump’s just tweeted that the United States is insisting that ALL countries that have placed artificial trade barriers and tariffs on goods impoted from our country must remove those barriers and tariffs or face even more tariffs.

So basically he is saying WE are allowed to impose tariffs on your shit, but you are not.

And then he is talkin about fair trade. Yeah right.

Western Hypocricy at its finest. Again.

Top 5 Reasons for the Government to Legalize Cannabis

  1. Economic – a whole new industry taken away from the black market. New jobs, taxes, license fees.
  2. Health – multitude of health applications. From concentrates, to creams and ointments.
  3. Environmentally friendly – Hemp (industrial cannabis – stuff that contains less then 0.5% of THC and does not get you “high”) can be used to make paper and textiles. Stop chopping down our forrests, plant some hemp and chop it down every 4 months.
  4. Safety – Regulated market will make sure that people are getting the cleanest purest form of their medicine. Safe working environment for growers and cultivators, and everyone else in the business.
  5. Scientific potential – the plant is extremely resilliant and holds a lot of secrets. It has great regeneration ability, and proven health benefits. So much is still undiscovered.

Western Hypocricy at it’s Finest

Remember #FreeSavchenko ? This was a Twitter campaign aimed to bring attention to the imprisonment of the Ukrainian helicopter pilot Nadezhda Savchenko. All the Western media was abuzz with the news of this heroic woman imprisoned by the Terrible Putin’s regime. Newspapers and magazines were publishing stories about her and her life. Television Muse Outlets ran long segments about her heroic fight against the evil Kremlin. People were showing up to rallies and demonstrations holding up her name.

Time flies by, and now that this obviously mentally unstable individual is in prison again, this time the Ukrainian prison, no one seems to care. You don’t even hear it anywhere in the news. CNN is not talking about it, neither does the Fox News Network. It’s completely gone off the face of the Earth. What happened? This just happened 4 years ago. And now we don’t even hear about it.

I do not hear any word from the state department, which used to have such strong and publicly loud opinions all the time. What are we paying our taxes for? Why did we even sponsor that fucking regime change in Ukraine? It’s not like any American actually cares about what goes on outside of his fence. (I am not even sure that many Americans can point out Ukraine on a map)

We give millions of dollars to this country every year in a form of aid, but we don’t seem to care.

Does that sound like rational decision making to you?

Stop wasting our tax dollars trying to overthrow the world!

Jack Fall Classic Series

August of 2017 turned out to be a hot month for poker in Ohio.  And since we have NO online poker sites to turn to for satellites, (thank you, US government) we must play the live versions.  Luckily, both Hollywood Columbus Casino and Jack Cincinnati Casino decided to have their poker series within a week of each other.

As you know I have min-cashed at the Columbus kickoff $350 event, so I was riding high with the hopes of another solid performance.  I got all my ducks in a row.  Took two days off work, to make sure I can play both starting days if things don’t go my way on the first try.  Got my bankroll ready.  Even hit a cash giveaway for a thousand bucks just to make sure I have enough wiggle room in my bankroll to play.  Poker Gods however, had different plans.

Unfortunately for all my well laid plans, I caught a cold a day before the kickoff event, and ended up spending both of my days off, and the whole weekend, with the miserable sniffles.  I heard that most of the events didn’t even make their guarantees, and I did not get a chance to grab my slice of the pie.  So sad.  I think I need go get a flu shot.  It’s been over a decade since I’ve been vaccinated.
