Jack Fall Classic Series

August of 2017 turned out to be a hot month for poker in Ohio.  And since we have NO online poker sites to turn to for satellites, (thank you, US government) we must play the live versions.  Luckily, both Hollywood Columbus Casino and Jack Cincinnati Casino decided to have their poker series within a week of each other.

As you know I have min-cashed at the Columbus kickoff $350 event, so I was riding high with the hopes of another solid performance.  I got all my ducks in a row.  Took two days off work, to make sure I can play both starting days if things don’t go my way on the first try.  Got my bankroll ready.  Even hit a cash giveaway for a thousand bucks just to make sure I have enough wiggle room in my bankroll to play.  Poker Gods however, had different plans.

Unfortunately for all my well laid plans, I caught a cold a day before the kickoff event, and ended up spending both of my days off, and the whole weekend, with the miserable sniffles.  I heard that most of the events didn’t even make their guarantees, and I did not get a chance to grab my slice of the pie.  So sad.  I think I need go get a flu shot.  It’s been over a decade since I’ve been vaccinated.

August 2017 Poker Schedule – Hollywood Casino Columbus Ohio

August 2017 Poker Schedule Columbus Ohio

Here is the monthly schedule of poker events at the Hollywood Casino in Columbus Ohio.  As you can see, this month’s main attraction is the upcoming Columbus Summer Classic Tournament Series, which will run from August 10th to August 20th.  The series will kick off on Thursday with a couple of $50 Mega Satellites to the Main Event.  These turbo satellites will have 15 guaranteed Main Event seats.  The starting stack is 10k, and the blinds are 15 minutes.  There are two days designated for the Mega Satellites, Thursday August 10th and August 17th.  I guess they want to give people more chances of making into the bigger weekend events.  I don’t think I will be able to make it up there for the satellites, but I am definitely going to play in the first weekend event.   It will be the first flight of the Event # 3, the $350 No Limit Deep Stack $125,000 guaranteed, which will run on Friday August  11th.  I already requested a day off, so I will not miss it.  This is an awesome event for an amateur poker player, or pretty much any poker player that does not have a substantial bankroll.  This event will have a $125,000 guarantee, with the starting stack of 30k, and easy flowing 30 minute levels.   Flight B will run on the following Saturday and the event will restart/merge on Sunday August 13th after the $200 No Limit Seniors $15,000 guaranteed (Event # 4) gets going.  Monday August 14th will feature a $240 Black Chip Bounty $20,000 guaranteed.  I will not be able to attend because the Western Southern Tennis Tournament will be in full swing in Cincinnati, and I will be extremely busy at work.  Event # 6, $250 Pot Limit Omaha will start at 2:15pm on Tuesday August 15th and will feature a $12,500 guarantee (not going to play that one either).  Event # 7, the $250 No Limit Super Stack $25,000 guaranteed will run on Wednesday August 16th.  This is another great tournament for the novice player.  20 minute levels, 25k starting stack and a 25k guarantee all for just $250 entry fee.  Sign me up!!  Thursday August 17th is another Mega Satellite day.  two $75 buy in satellites with 15 seats guaranteed, getting people ready for the Main Event weekend.  The $550 No Limit Holdem Main Event (Event # 10) will kick off at 12:15pm on Friday August 18th (Flight A) and Saturday August 19th (Flight B).  40k starting stack and 30/40 minute levels with $175,000 guaranteed prize pool.  The Main Event will merge and restart on Sunday.  The series will finish up on Sunday August 20th with the $200 buy in Second Chance Event.  The final tournament will have 20 minute levels and a starting stack of 20k chips.
